Norfolk TT Results...

Well, my first bicycle race has been completed and it was freaking fun. Yea, I said freaking, I'm trying to run a family friendly blog here. :)

There was a 17 to 20 mph southwesterly wind, which was a tail wind for the first half. It was great, my confidence was soaring and I even got up to 41 mph; however, in all honesty that was on a downhill. The hills didn't seem all that bad either. I arrived at the halfway point and the time was looking good. I was even thinking I would make the initial goal I set for myself.

Well, the winds of fate (intentional pun) were laughing at me. Just as I made the turn around it was like running in knee deep water. To make matters worse, I swear that the hills on the way back were a hundred times worse. On the way out, the hills were short climbs with nice descents on the other side. On the way back it was the opposite. For my lack of skill so far, I thought it was brutal. Enjoyable, yes; brutal, even more so.

Half way back on the back half, who should pass me but Sydney, a path of flames licking out her back tire as she smokes it all the way in. Great job Syd, you are one incredible rider.

As for yours truly, I pushed it as best as I could and ended with second place in the Cat 5 35+ grouping. I know I worked myself hard because the lower muscles of my buttocks are screaming at me as I write this.

Everyone at the event was great. There was even a recumbant, the Barracuda, which was just plain awesome and I think he did the whole thing under 45 minutes. A big hearty thanks go out to the organizers of the event. Even though the state medals didn't make it there. hehe

Maybe I will post some pictures later on. Now it's time for some rest and off to Swanson tomorrow for the noon race. See you there.

Sydney on a bike...yeah, path of flames would be a good description. :D

Good job on your TT!

How do i get to my old stuff said...

u did great, kevin. Showing up for a time trial is non trivial and facing that wind and the many climbs on the way back.... well, they hurt. So glad u didn't get seriously injured at Swanson.

That particular venue is deceiving. Seems simple but can send you to the emergency room in an instant.

Keep on keepin' on. Glad you're likin' it.
